Hike
Follow in the footsteps of history and hike scenic trails through Falun’s cultural landscape. Discover the Carl Larsson Trail and Sweden’s oldest preserved waterways leading to the Falun Mine.
The Carl Larsson trail
The Carl Larsson trail has existed since the 1980s and mainly runs in easy-to-hike terrain. Start from the Shooting Pavilion at Lugnet and hike the 8.5 km long trail between Falun and Sundborn. The trail is called the Carl Larsson Trail as the artist Carl Larsson and his family walked this route to get from Sundborn to the schoolhouse in central Falun. This hike takes about 2 hours.
The Carl Larsson trail may be closed due to military exercises as the trail passes a firing range.
The way of the water to the mine
You are welcome to hike on cleared paths and roads along Sweden's oldest preserved waterways to the mine. Along the trail, there are old cabin sites, beautiful miners' estates, ponds and pond houses in Nordic nature. There are a total of three miles of hiking trails distributed over several different loops.
