Welcome to Swedish for immigrants, SFI
At SFI you'll learn to read, write, listen and speak Swedish to get by in your everyday life. You'll learn about the Swedish society and prepare for your future working life.
You can change the language on the application site to english by selecting Engelska/English under "Presentationsspråk".
When you have applied to SFI you will get a meeting invitation from a guidance counsellor. During the meeting you will receive more information about SFI and you will plan your studies together .
SFI can be combined with other activities such as:
- Social orientation, for those of you who are completely new to Sweden
- Other studies
- Work
Who can study SFI in Falun?
You have the right to study at SFI if you:
- lack basic knowledge of the Swedish language.
- are registered to live in Falu municipality.
- are an adult, no earlier than July the year that you turn 16.
If you are between the ages of 16 and 19, contact the Introduction program at the municipal high school in the first place.

EU/EEA citizen
In some cases, you may also have the right to study SFI even though you are not registered in the municipality of Falun. This applies if you are entitled to education based on:- the EU-right
- the Agreement on the European Economic Area (EEA)
- the agreement between the EU and its Member States and Switzerland on the free movement of persons.

Ukrainians and the Temporary Protection Directive
You who have been granted extended protection under the temporary protection directive can study SFI if you live in Falun municipality. You need to be 18 years or older.This only applies to SFI and courses in Swedish as a second language at primary school level and upper secondary level. You do not have the right to study other courses or vocational training at the Adult Education.If you have a coordination number (samordningsnummer), apply using the application link above. How long do I study SFI?
SFI is divided into different study paths of different lengths. Which study path you should start on depends on how many years you have previously studied in your home country.

Study path 1 - for you who have 0-6 years of educational background
Here you study courses A, B, C and D.Course 1A - up to 450 hours, 40 weeks
Course 1B - up to 450 hours, 40 weeks
Course 1C - up to 300 hours, 30 weeks
Course 1D - up to 300 hours, 30 weeksIf you need extra reading and writing lesson you can also be offered 300 hours of basic reading and writing instruction, based on the school's assessment of your needs.

Study path 2 - for you who have 7-12 years of educational background
Here you study courses B, C and D.Course 2B - up to 600 hours, 40 weeks
Course 2C - up to 300 hours, 30 weeks*
Course 2D - up to 300 hours, 30 weeks*If you don't know the latin alphabet you can get extra hours for basic reading and writing.*It's possible to study course C and D two full days per week if you work or for other reasons cannot come to school every school day.
